"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3).

" . . . this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11).

Read I Thessalonians 4:13-18.

"He that testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen, Even so, come, Lord Jesus"
(Revelation 22:20).

Jesus is Coming Again!

This Blessed Hope is woven into every area here at VBC.

With the Apostle John, we pray daily--"Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20)

I am updating this page Sunday afternoon. This morning I preached the last message in a year-long–series on the book of Hebrews. In that message I expounded on the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus. I mentioned the Rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) and the second phase of His coming, when He reveals Himself from heaven. At His revelation King Jesus will come in "flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Thessalonians 1:2).

After the service, I greeted people and was going to my study when one of our nine–year–old children approached me. She smiled big and said,

"Pastor, I'm so happy. Do you know why?"

"Let me guess, because your 're saved?" I asked.

"Well, that, but something else. Pastor, Jesus is coming for me one day in the clouds! I'm so happy about that!"

That child's joy thrilled my soul and made a wonderful day glorious! (Later, my wife, who taught children's church today, told me how that child's joy over Jesus' soon return made her day as well).

I don't know what other children learned in church today. I doubt if very many nine–year–olds (and even toddlers, as they are told here) were taught "Jesus is Coming Again". We teach it to the youngest—we preach it to all.

Why is it so important to preach on the Second Coming? First, it is mentioned 318 times in the New Testament (about once in every 25 verses). Second, we are told to watch for His coming. Third, we are told:

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him, purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (I John 3:2-3).

The pollsters tell us Christian young people actually start having sex at a younger age than those outside the evangelical church! I have to wonder what they are hearing in their churches! John tells us Christians who have the blessed hope of Jesus' soon return will purify themselves! Perhaps one of the reasons for so much impurity among professing Christians is that they never hear about the Second Coming of Jesus.

Here at VBC, we sing about it, teach it, preach it, pray for it—and Hallelujah—one day know we will participate in it!

The church that is not proclaiming the Second Coming of Christ is a disobedient church. It is one whose priorities are not governored by the plain teachings of the Bible.

If you are looking for a church that is looking for Jesus' soon return, you've found it. Welcome Home!
